Over the period of 24 hours, we recently made an incredible fifty Freedom of Information requests (FOIRs) to some of the largest NHS Hospital Foundation Trusts in the UK. Forty-one were outside of London; the remaining nine were inside the M25 ring. We made these requests to prove that there is no issue with trans women in women's wards within the current NHS systems as claimed by Baroness Emma Nicolson and Lord Blencathra in continual attempts in the House of Lords to exclude trans women from NHS hospital wards.
We are saddened that issue has not been dropped by Baroness Emma Nicolson and Lord Blencathra and that there are rumours that the Equality & Human Rights Commission (EHRC), who we believe hold gender-critical views are also looking at this alleged "issue".
Our latest investigation is in addition to a very similar, but smaller investigation that we launched in December 2021 which proved that there were no complaints from women in regards to trans women being treated in single-sex wards.
It should be also noted that in previous investigations by others, it was shown that a very significant number of trans people avoid going to the hospital because they are afraid of transphobia - the prejudice of trans people or being misgendered by other patients or staff.
This is deeply concerning and we know costs trans lives.
The fifty FOIRs we requested went to hospitals in these locations:
London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Bristol, Newport (Wales), Sheffield, Leeds, Edinburgh, Leicester, Coventry, Bradford, Cardiff, Belfast, Nottingham, Kingston upon Hull, Newcastle upon Tyne, Stoke-on-Trent, Southampton, Derby, Portsmouth, Brighton, Plymouth, Northampton, Reading, Luton, Wolverhampton, Bolton, Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Norwich, Swindon, Milton Keynes, Southend-on-Sea, Middlesbrough, Peterborough, Sunderland, Warrington, Huddersfield, Taunton and East Kent Hospitals.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could you please supply the following information relevant to the period 1st January 2021 to the 31st December 2021:
(1) How many trans women were treated as inpatients in wards designated as 'women's wards.'
(2) How many natal female inpatients complained that a trans woman inpatient was being cared for in the same ward?
Technically those approached have twenty working days to reply, so we would like to think that by the end of March 2022, all the NHS Foundation Trusts will have responded. Past experience suggests that about 10-15% will not comply or will say they are unable to reply because, for example, their systems do not monitor the keywords or phrases used in our request - for example, "trans women".
Time will tell - however as we get replies from the various NHS Foundation Trusts we will publish them.
The first to reply was Newcastle, where it appears single-sex wards don't even exist!
We are pleased to note however over the year ending 31st December 2021, Newcastle Hospitals (along with all the other NHS Hospital Trusts we have contacted) confirmed they have never received a complaint.
Uploaded today, (08:34 - 27th of March 2022), the twelfth to reply - Liverpool- yet again they have not received any complaints.
